Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900I) starts receiving August security update in India

Samsung has recently rolled out monthly security updates to its flagship devices including Galaxy Note7, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. We were not expecting any security update for the 2 years old Galaxy S5 but last month they rolled out the security update for the Galaxy S5 SM-G900I model confirming that this device will receive the security updates every month like the other flagships.

Now, Samsung has started rolling the latest August security update to the Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900I) in India. The update weights around 30MB and comes with stability improvements. This latest update comes with the firmware version DDU1CPC1 and the security level is also bumped to 1 August 2016. However, this update doesn’t bring any other changes to the Galaxy S5 UI. The update is available OTA and may take time to hit your Galaxy S5 SM-G900I variant in India.

There is also no information available if other variants of the Galaxy S5 are also receiving the monthly security updates or not. If you haven’t yet received the OTA notification for this latest security update on your Galaxy S5 carrying the model number SM-G900I and you are currently residing in India, then just tap settings>>about device>>download updates manually to check for the updates and then updating your device to the latest Android security level.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900I was launched in Indian market with the similar specs like other Galaxy S5 models like a 5.1-inch full HD Super AMOLED display with 1920×1080 pixels resolution and is powered by the 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC with Adreno 330 GPU. It runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box and features a 16MP rear camera with LED Flash, BSI and Ultra HD video recording and also has a 2.1MP front-facing camera.

It also comes with IP67 ratings for dust and water resistance. The Galaxy S5 has 2GB of RAM with 16GB internal storage that is expandable up to 64GB with microSD card. It is having some added features like S Health 3.0 and Heart rate sensor. There is 2800mAh Battery and connectivity options available are 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2X2 MIMO), Bluetooth v4.0 LE, GPS, USB 3.0 and NFC.
