Samsung may launch a new smartphone soon that will be bendable just like a flip phone as revealed by a new patent filling by the company in South Korea. This will be the Samsung’s and world’s first bendable phone if launched. The patent filling reveals the images of the device in a PDF file and shows the concept of bending the phone with the use of a hinge in the center. The device is expected to launch in the year 2017 but we don’t have the exact release dates of the phone.
Internally known as Project Valley, the Galaxy X smartphone can be folded or unfolded semi-automatically if we translate the Korean text in the patent filling. The patent filling also confirms a secondary display that will be activated once the device comes in the folded state. This patent filling also confirms the recent rumors that confirms that the Korean company has plans to ship smartphones and tablets with bendable OLED screens.
Samsung has already faced the battery explosion saga with its Galaxy Note 7 device because of which they have to stop the production of the device globally and with this bendable phone, they might face new challenges with the batteries of this device that also needs to be bendable. The company may have learnt a lot from the Galaxy Note 7 saga and might not be willing to see another such incidents in its future smartphones.
The main advantages of this bendable smartphone will be that it will easily fit in the pockets and will cover the entire cheek while calling. The Galaxy X is a concept phone and is expected to launch somewhere in 2017 and we may not be seeing a Galaxy S8 phone with the bendable capability which is also expected to launch next year. So let’s wait for more leaks and rumors of both the Galaxy X and Galaxy S8 smartphones for more details of both the devices.
